There are multiple problems with this scenario. First, obviously it’s cruel to send animals to jail as they do not have a cognitive understanding of the laws of whatever place they live. Also, the donkey probably did not even realize it was being punished, but assumed that it was just going through life as it has always done. I certainly understand that people are sometimes cruel to animals, but while reprehensible, I can forgive this cruelty if the animals don’t even realize the meanness being inflicted upon them.

The main problem I have with a donkey going to jail is that the very fact that it’s a donkey means that it’s supposed to act like an ass. But apparently in the United States, there is no law against acting like an ass, whether you’re a donkey or a human.

So when Britney Spears wants to act like an ass and throw a temper tantrum when it’s time for her kids to go home, no one was interested in throwing her in jail. When George W. Bush invaded Iraq, a lot of people that this was ass-like behavior; but again, where is Mr. Bush? Sipping tea in the White House - not in jail. And what about the mean-spirited government officials in Burma that just yesterday starting removing people from their refugee centers and sending them back to their devastated villages with no food, shelter, or medicine? They’re not in jail.
