You might find the title of this article
surprising after
one of my last
posts on Hillary Clinton, but I have to admit that she is my
hero. To me, she is the Queen of Swords that I described above -
someone that has suffered terribly but has gone to bat for others.
She was the first lady for eight years where she was classified as a
royal “bitch” by many, in my opinion for being a strong and
assertive woman. Then her husband cheated on her, which was bad
enough, but you can go ahead and add worldwide humiliation to the
equation as well. Not only did President Clinton have an affair (Who
knows? Maybe multiple affairs) with a younger woman, he did so in a
way that it was evident that eventually everyone would know about
it.
Then Mrs. Clinton ran for President as the
champion of the poor and working class. She swore that if she gained
the office, she would fight for universal healthcare and fight
against the soaring costs of fuel. But after 17 months of bitter
debates against Senator Obama, who finally clinched the Democratic
nomination on June 3, 2008, she finally ceded the ticket to him in
an address to the people today.
I have to admit, I really really like Obama, and
I like McCain fairly well too; but for some reason I feel an
emptiness inside me since Senator Clinton lost the Democratic
nomination. While I strongly believe that any of the candidates in
the 2008 race for President will help the people in any way they
can, I always have a tendency to root for someone I consider the
Queen of Swords.
No matter who wins the Presidency this year, I
will never forget Hillary Rodham Clinton, and I sincerely hope we
have not seen the last of her. She is truly my hero.
